Aqwell - Membrane Bioreactor

The Aqwell MBR Membrane Bioreactor system is a combination of the activated sludge process and membrane filtration. By combining these technologies, an extremely high quality of treated water can be produced by a process that is as much as 5 times smaller than a conventional biological wastewater treatment system.

The MBR Process is well proven with over 2,000 treatment plants installed worldwide using this same membrane technology. These plants range in size from those suitable for single households to those providing sewage treatment for entire cities.


Under operational conditions a layer of biomass forms on the 0.4 micron membrane resulting in effective filtration down to a particle size as small as 0.01 micron. This ensures removal of virtually all bacteria and most viruses from the treated water.
